Children’s Teams

Children at St. Mary’s Primary School are actively encouraged to make decisions about what happens in school. They learn about the part they can play in making decisions and how to speak up for the rights of children around the world.

We have a number of children’s teams so that children can have a voice in how the school is run and how we develop new ideas and projects.

Our Active Schools team helps to get our school community moving more and encourages everyone to be more active in school and at home. They lead games and activities at lunchtime.

Our Green Schools team look after our gardens spaces, growing vegetables and planting beautiful flowers. They remind us all to reduce, reuse, recycle and to be more environmentally aware. We are currently working towards our second Green Flag on the theme of water.

Our Young Interpreters are working with children who are new to English to support them in their first few days and months in a new school. Our Lámh Ambassadors visit classes across the school to share and teach Lámh signs to everyone. They work alongside our Diversity Team to promote diversity and inclusion in our community. Our children speak very powerfully about children’s rights, about discrimination and racism in our community and about being upstanders and working together to create change.

Our team of Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Friendship Keepers focus their efforts on promoting kindness and care for one another. Forming and keeping good relationships is really important for everyone and these two teams work together to encourage children to be kind and friendly, to solve conflict when it arises and to stand up for what is right.
