Our children’s ‘Active Team’ work with the adults on the Active Schools programme. The team meet regularly to identify priorities, offer suggestions, problem-solve any issues and plan new ideas. The 6th Class children take the lead. They meet with the adults to give feedback and all of the suggestions agreed are put into our Action Plan. The children talk to their individual classes to share what has been suggested. They also share information at assemblies.

We have a noticeboard for our Active School Flag news. We’re currently sharing the progress of our 5th Class challenge: to run to Helsinki!

In our praise assembly, we share good news each week. When children are successful at sports and activities outside of school, we take the time to celebrate their achievements. Recently, two children won medals at the National Taekwondo Championships!

We have good partnerships with local sports clubs, who come in during the year to give taster sessions, including the GAA. Here’s 5th Class working with the local GAA coaches last term.

This year, we had a visit from Sports Against Racism Ireland for soccer workshops. Children from 4th, 5th and 6th Class took part.

We are avid Dublin GAA Football supporters and organise big celebrations every time they reach the All-Ireland Championships – which let’s face it, is every year!!

Last term, we invited Jason from Basketball Ireland to visit us. Each class had a workshop to develop new skills. A few weeks later, our basketball teams attended a special tournament at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght and not only played brilliantly, but also helped to run matches themselves.

This term, coaches from the FAI have been working with our after-school football club and Mr. Carney. The children trained hard and our football team then took part in the FAI ‘Five a Side’ competition.

Our 40-strong athletics team attended the Santry Athletics Competition organised by Cumann na mBunscol in May. The children practised hard at school with Ms. O’Callaghan and Mr. Carney and in our after-school club with Ms. Collins. We won our very first medal when Simon came third in the 100m sprint!
